Hello. This is my first post to the forums here. I'm hoping someone can help me find a workaround to a problem I am having...

Problem Statement

I just purchased an iPad as a present for my father and installed 1Password Pro. I would like to setup the Dropbox sync for him since he doesn't have a Mac computer. However it appears that a Mac computer must be used to first setup the Dropbox sync. It seems that I am in a Catch 22.

Possible Workaround

I have a Mac myself (I use 1Password Mac as well as 1Password for iPhone). Is it possible to get him started using my Mac? Is it possible to switch from my keychain to his keychain and back again? How would this done?

Hey AWS team!

Since Stu is asleep while im having this idea, I guess ill have to put in my feature requests thru the more normal channels :-)

1. Could we have a button to just open the 1PW browser without going into a login's page? Perhaps if we want to make a new login…?
Corollary to 1: the more features you can add to make it better for using it to add stuff, not just access, the better. So being able to create a login record thru the browser, generating new passwords, etc. (if this stuff is already there, cool!)

2. Could you add a favorite logins section so i can quickly get to my most frequently used logins on my iPad (cough, Facebook, cough).

Thanks guys!

The Dropbox API creates the 1PasswordSync folder, whether you use it or not.
It cannot be deleted, but it can be hidden.
To do so, you will have to install DeveloperToolsCLI.pkg from Xcode (Mac OS Install DVD). Skip this step if you already have Xcode installed.

Next, launch Terminal and enter the following command:

Code:

SetFile -a "V" ~/Dropbox/1PasswordSync

To unhide, simply replace "V" with lowercase "v".
This can be done on any given file/folder, and will only hide it on Finder view (Terminal doesn't care for Finder attributes, neither does Dropbox website or any other non-Mac app).

Cheers! (beer)

I am trying to use the new 1Password Pro on my iPhone with the Dropbox sync feature but it keeps telling me it can't find my 1Password file. I have an idea what maybe causing this and I want to get your feedback.

I am using Dropbox to sync my entire Documents folder, but I didn't want to substitute by Dropbox folder for my Documents folder. To get around this I placed a Symlink of my Documents folder into my Dropbox, which causes my entire Documents for to be synced and preserves the normal OS X folder convention. My 1Password keychain is in a folder in my Documents folder (/Documents/1Password/) and shows up in my dropbox online and on my iPhone in the Dropbox App.

On my Mac I have updated to the latest version of 1Password (3.3).

Is the Symlink'd Documents folder the reason this isn't working? Do I actually have to store my 1Password file in a folder in my Dropbox folder on my mac, and not through the symlink'd Documents folder? If 1Password Pro for my iphone would do a simple search of my dropbox it should be able to find it, since the dropbox service doesn't know my documents folder is symlink'd, it just shows up as though it actually lives in the Dropbox folder on my Mac.

Any ideas?

I upgraded 1Password Pro on my iPad before I saw that I had to upgrade my Mac as well for sync to work. This manifested in the expected way - enter DropBox login details on the iPad, no data found.

However once I had upgraded my Mac, I reloaded 1P on the iPad and all it could say was "master password incorrect". This was very strange as it had never actually asked me for my dropbox keychain's master password!

Eventually I discovered the option to re-enter my master password and everything is good now, but that's definitely confusing :)

(Also worth noting, my master password on the DropBox keychain was the same one I'd just entered to open the iPad app thanks to previous WiFi sync. I thought it was supposed to use that before asking? Maybe related to the fact it never asked?).

I am using the 1password pro app with both an iPad and an iPhone. I have a few questions and concerns regarding using the iPhone. I am syncing...

I am using the 1password pro app with both an iPad and an iPhone. I have a few questions and concerns regarding using the iPhone. I am syncing with Dropbox and that has setup fine. However the database on the iPhone has it's own master password which can be different to the master password on the mac. I know this wasn't a problem when synced locally over wifi as the wifi signal is encrypted in its own right. I presumed the whole encrypted file couldn't be passed over during sync which is why you took this approach. But the iPad does have the same password as the mac, so the syncing must be done differently. It carries over the master password from the mac. Why isn't the iPhone treated the same way, after all it is an iOS device.

Another worry with the iPhone is caused by the new multitasking iOS4. On the iPad, pressing the home button will take you out of 1Password and effectively close it. This means that the next time 1password is run it requires the master password for entry. Which is what I would expect. However on the iPhone pressing the home button leaves the 1Password app suspended (pseudo multitasking). This means that when you re-enter 1password any time later the only level of security is your 4 digit low security numeric password. Granted, there is a lock button in the top corner after choosing ...more in the menu, but it's not very intuitive. There is no timeout I can find that would shut the app down after a set period, requiring master password again to access sensitive information. I can't understand why the iPhone version can't be more aligned to the ipad version in this respect. They are both portable devices with similar operating systems and principles.

You have got autolock on the iPad version. Will this still work when the app is automatically suspended by the home button, after the iPad gets its iOS4 facelift later this year?

Hi!

The new 1Password with dropbox is fantastic!

I notice when syncing the network activity spins, but I've seen in Reeder for iPhone that it actually uses an API to change the battery icon to various syncing icons it uses (like syncing, updating images, etc) and if you tap the status bar, you get text of what is going on (which goes away once it is done)

This is very nice, tho subtle. 1Password could say "Syncing with Dropbox... 1 of 200" for example.

Nice job! I was trying out lastpass because wifi sync was too limited, but I'm back to 1password now!

I've been using 1Password desktop Mac and syncing with Dropbox for a few months. Just updated this morning to v3.3.0

I just bought 1Password Pro 3.5 for my iPhone 4. When I first launch it, it requires a 4-digit password and then a master alpha password.

I go to your app's Dropbox Sync. It wants my Dropbox email and password. I put it in and now it says it can't sync because my master password is wrong.

So I have to enter the master password I just made up, and THEN put in my desktop password twice. It would have been nice if it advised me to use the same password as my desktop version in the first place. It's just very confusing. And still it doesn't sync. I still don't know what it wants so I can get it to Dropbox Sync.

I'm excited that 1Password for iPhone now supports Dropbox syncing. Before trying to use it, I have a few questions. For context, I currently use 1Password on my Mac and iPhone. I have the latest version of both. I already save my keychain using Dropbox, but it may not be in the exact location it needs to be for syncing.

1) Is there a specific top-level Dropbox folder name or path that the keychain must be in for the iPhone app to find it?

2) Do I need to turn off wi-fi syncing on my iPhone?

3) Do I need to do anything to avoid ending up with duplicate entries or losing entries after the 1st dropbox sync?

4) I also have an iPod Touch. Can I have all of my devices sync to the same Dropbox keychain?

I had the previous version installed in wifi sync.
I installed the last one this morning and I started to replicate several times the files, but on the Dropbox I was lucky this did not impacted the database of my passwords.
then I uninstalled the application and I reinstalled. Since then, no way to get any password in the 1P Touch DB now.
I read carefully most of the forums following suggestions but no way.
Now the password db on the iPhone and iPad seems to be empty and when try to replicated finish immediately.
I also got several errors like the master password is wrong.
Should I make something special on dropbox, in order to see the agilekeychain file?
the MAC / Win versions continue to work properly. the db is not in the root (also if I tried this too) and it I browse the hidden file .ws.agile.1Password.settings it contains the full path to the db.
pls I need your help.
I have no crashes, but maybe because records are not processed at all.
thx in advance.

Hi All,

I looked around and the other crash reports I looked different to me so I started this new thread to report what I’m experiencing on my iPhone.
iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.0.1.
Every time I initiate a sync through dropbox 1Password Pro 3.5 gets the data to be synced, starts the sync, and eventually crashes.
It first crashed at multiple steps of the process, but I was able to progress by relaunching the application.
Now I’ve reached about 175 items left to sync and it gets it to crash immediately. I suspect there is some data in there that makes it crash.
I sent along crash logs in a .zip archive.

Hello,

Thanks for the new Dropbox Sync. Dropbox Sync works pretty well for me so far. One issue I encountered:

- Created new login on my iPad
- New login propagated nicely to my Desktop (Mac).
- Changes to the new item synced without issues.

Now I deleted the login on the Desktop (incl. empty trashcan). The login is not in 1Password (Desktop) anymore. However the login is stlll visible on my iPad after sync. I have synced several times and it is not disappearing on my iPad. I replicated the behaviour with a second login item. Same result.

I woke up this morning to download the newly available app that was going to fix all the problems with the iPad version.

There is no announcement about this in the forums (wouldn't that be logical?) so i don't know where the new features are listed.

While trying to figure out what is updated, I notice that the major issue that needed fixing, the 1password interaction with Safari, does not work, or no one from the company has posted how to make it work yet.

Then I notice that the new feature, Dropbox syncing, is not working for many people.

So now we're in a situation where the old bugs don't get fixed properly, and every new feature introduces new ones?

Maybe its time to take step back and look at the organization here. In the past year, Agile has gone from one of my favorite software companies to one that appears totally disorganized from the outside, and that makes me afraid to download the updates from the app store.

For something as important as a password manager, I expect a level of competence far above that of other developers. Slow down, and get these thing right before releasing them, or open up your beta group.

Just my somewhat frustrated thoughts on the current state of the mobile apps.

On the iPhone or iPad do you have to sync in the dropbox app to sync changes and then go to the 1Password app or is it all automatic like on the desktop version of dropbox? Also, help links to the faq page on how to setup drop box, but the instruction are not correct, as the iPad version looks in a specific folder for the keychain, and that's not specified. And, it does not reference the iPad/iPhone apps.

Hi

Installed new release on all our devices and having no problems except on the 3G. Basically, here's whats happening -

1. Enable Dropbox sync, enter all passwords.
2. Screen says, finding file, then "Loading remote encryption keys", then the app crashes.
3. Upon relaunch, go back to sync screen and the following happens-
4. "Requesting remote encryption keys", before it says "Dropbox sync failed to validate remote encryption keys: No background task exists with identifier 0".

I've installed this okay on iPad and 3GS, just not the 3G. I've removed the app, reinstalled, sync'ed with the Mac and then tried the above and it happens the same everytime. I've rebooted the phone as well.

I guess you're going to tell me its not 3G compatible! Anyway, any ideas?

I go to fill in a password (tried both the ipad and the iphone and got the same result) and it continually came up with the error that it could not decrypt. It seems it did not like that my password had a '£' at the start of my Access Code, for when I deleted it, everything worked...strange...

(I have all the latest updates on the iphone/ipad and the mac is Version 3.2.5 (build 30665))

I activated the sync on the iPhone - it send 643 items
So no matter what I do - 1P on the iPad and iPhone always send the entire keychain again and again - yes its all in sync - but is that the way its supposed to work instead of just sending updated files?

I have updated 1P on my Mac and 1PT on my iphone to the latest versions. Setting up the Dropbox syncing I kept getting that the master password of my data file was incorrect, but finally after various attempts it took it and sync fine.

I wanted to try how "immediate" updating was so I created an item on 1P to see when it would appear on 1PT but it did not happen until I actually went to the sync settings and pressed sync now. Is this how it is supposed to be (if so it would be better to have a sync button somewhere more accessible instead of having to go deep into the menus) , or should the file update automatically when a change is made (like calendar sync through MobileMe) or is there a lag and if so how long?

Thanks for your help and for a great program like 1P!!!

I've been lazy and haven't posted about this but it's been a problem ever since I started using 1PT in it's beta days. Perhaps it's me, but when I see the screenshots on iTunes there are thumbnails and/or webpage favicons associated with logins.

I don't have any of those on either of my iOS devices.

They are all present on my 1P Mac but don't seem to make the transfer via sync to my iPhone and iPad. Everything else syncs as expected.

Is there some setting that I'm missing? I upgraded to iPhone 4 recently and set it up as a fresh install, so when 1PT loaded it did a full and fresh sync with my Mac and still no Thumbnails or Favicons.
Any ideas?

This bug is a bit complicated to explain so it might take a couple times.

1Password for Mac (1P) doesn't always recognize that 1P Touch (1PT) is ready to sync via WiFi.

This is a new problem in 3.5 and, I believe, has to do with how multitasking is implemented.

1P wasn't recognizing my 1PT as ready to sync after I updated to 3.5. I toggled the wifi sync and 1P then saw 1PT, however after I closed 1PT and relaunced a minute or so later, the same problem presented itself.

This was true regardless of whether I had security set to lock upon 1PT close or not. This problem also exists if I manually lock 1PT from the security tab of the iPhone.

If I went to the iOS4 taskbar and manually closed 1PT then upon relaunch 1P and 1PT saw each other and synced. In the end, the only way to get 1P to again see that 1PT was running was to completely unload 1PT from my iPhone's memory via manual close of the taskbar.

In short, I think when multitasking there may need to be some additional trigger set to force recognition of 1PT and PT. This might not be completely straightforward because i assume you wouldn't want this resyncing occuring every time 1PT emerged from a multi task swap, but it should AT LEAST be visible to 1P whenever it is active on the iOS device. I think part of the problem may be how iOS hibernates Apps. It seems that, perhaps, in retaining 1PT's current state, even if locked, 1PT doesn't again connect to 1P when coming out of hibernation.

Thoughts...

Then I turned on Dropbox sync on iPhone, entered requested PWs, a new sync began. V_E_R_Y S_L_O_W. However, I kept seeing messages informing me of sync conflicts as each pw was downloaded. After seeing many of these I reset iPhone to Wi-Fi sync.

Why should there be any conflicts? If Dropbox is synced from Desktop (which needs to be open for Wi-Fi sync to run on iPhone) shouldn't the db's be identical? Changing the sync from Wi-Fi to Dropbox on the iPhone should give me the same db on the iPhone, right?

http://help.agile.ws/1Password_touch/remote_wipe.html:
For now, the answer to this question is: “yes and no.”
Background
Some of our customers have asked if 1Password touch contains a remote wipe feature, which is sometimes called a “remote kill switch.” This feature is popular in the business world because it allows owners or IT administrators to erase a device if it is lost or stolen, even if it is halfway across the city or country.
Unfortunately, 1Password touch does not have such a feature, largely because Apple does not allow third-party developers like us to run background processes. We have no way to enable 1Password touch to “listen” for a command to remotely wipe its database and protect it from loss or theft.

I don't use 1Password for the Mac despite purchasing it when 1Password version 2 was available. After trying it out, I decided I didn't like it and uninstalled it.

However, I do make extensive use of 1Password for my iPhone as it allows me to keep all kinds of work passwords, copier pins, and budget accounts easily accessible.

I need to reset my iPhone, but I wanted to backup my 1Password data on my iPhone first. So, I tried to sync. But when I did this, what I ended up with on both my phone and my 1Password for the Mac is a disaster. Only two notes synced over and neither of them are as important as all the passwords I just lost.

I know all that data is still in iTunes in the backups there, but I'm not sure how to get at it.

Any ideas about how to retrieve my lost notes from a failed sync?

Hi
1Password does not seem to be recognizing a particular web page and does not list the form in the pop-up window in Safari on my iPad. It's working fine for other websites and the same login and webpage form work fine on my Mac.

What happens is:
- i go to spg.com (which redirects to http://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/index.html) and there is a frame on the left side of the window to log in
- i click on the bookmarks icon and select "1Password Logins"
- the little black pop-up window comes up and asks for my access code but the form is not listed

I tried opening the specific login page by clicking on "sign in now" in that frame. It opens a new page where you can log in. 1Password in my iPad is not recognizing that page either.

I have ensured that the URL is correct on both pages (including the s in https) but I simply cannot get 1Password to recognize that page and list the form in the pop-up. Any ideas?

iPad system info:
- OS v3.2.1
- 1Password Pro v3.1.1

Mac system info:
- OS X v10.6.4
- Firefox v3.6.6
- 1Password v3.2.5

[EDIT} just to mention that if i'm in 1PasswordPro on the iPad and click on the URL in the login record page, the webpage opens up in 1PasswordPro's own webbrowser and is filled in correctly. It just doesn't work from Safari.

Hi!

I have one question on the clipboard behavior on iOS devices.

On a Mac, I've configured 1P so that any item copied in the clipboard will be removed after 30 seconds.

There does not seem to be any similar control on 1PT, maybe because this is not supported by the underlying iOS.

So my question is: when I copy a password to the clipboard in 1PT to paste it in Safari, is it possible for any other App to copy that value from the clipboard without my consent (i.e. without me explicitly using the Paste functionality)?

Currently my "workflow" is: I copy a password in 1PT (I'm on iPad so the Lookup bookmarklet does not work), paste it in Safari, then select some other text in Safari and copy to the clipboard (so that my password is pushed out from the clipboard itself).

I would be interested to know your take on this.

Thanks for any insight!
Cheers.
