    Default Troubleshooting guide

1Password Chrome support is still in the early Alpha stages of development and is running on a Beta version of Chrome so it's no surprise that there will be some bumps along the road. Below is a list of some common pitfalls and potential fixes.

    1. Verify you are on the latest 1Password 3 Beta

The Chrome extension needs the latest and greatest 1Password 3 Beta to be installed. Verify you have the latest by going to the 1Password > Preferences > Update window, enabling Betas, and then clicking the Check Now button.

    2. Extension will not install / appear

If you've been running earlier Chrome betas, you may have to delete your existing Chrome support folder before trying to install the extension. You can find this folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome (where "~" is your Home user folder). This means your bookmarks, browsing history, open tabs, and other settings will also be lost. Such is the fast-paced life of living on the edge. The next time your start Chrome, you can use the Chrome > Import Bookmarks and Settings option to re-import all your stuff from either Safari or Firefox if need be.

    3. Cannot upgrade to latest version

To upgrade to the latest version of the 1Password extension, select the Window > Extensions menu item in Chrome, then click the Developer mode link to reveal the Update extensions now button.
Unfortunately Chrome's automatic updates do not always work so you need to verify you have the latest version by checking the Changelog. When the automatic updater fails you need to manually follow the installation instructions in the Chrome Setup Instructions document.

    4. Clicking 1P toolbar button does nothing

After upgrading the 1Password extension you must restart Chrome because there is some compiled code that is not properly refreshed.

    5. Jittery / dancing window

Several users have reported that the 1P window is jittery when it opens if there are multiple logins available. This should be fixed in the latest release; upgrade and see.

    6. Keep trying!

While it is not very scientific, multiple users have reported that nothing worked and then things miraculously fixed themselves. If you cannot get the 1P window to open at all, try restarting Chrome multiple times and clicking on the 1P icon a bunch of times (indeed, one user said it took 4 clicks before it started working). Of course none of this should be necessary but these things happen when running Alpha software on a Beta platform.

    7. Some Logins will fail

The current algorithm for filling Logins is very simple and will not work for all Logins. Only simple logins (i.e. a username and password) will work.
In addition to this list, be sure to keep an eye on the Changelog to see if new versions attempt to fix an issue you're experiencing.
